A seed of love. A legacy of faith.
A mission of hope.
In 1984, Seeds of Righteousness Mission was born from a quiet but powerful inspiration: A mother’s encouragement to her son Terry Mattson, known to many as Mateo, moved by the call of Christ and the needs of the poor in Central America. Mateo left behind a comfortable life and a promising career to follow a higher purpose. His heart burned with one mission: to bring the good news of the Kingdom to the poor, just as Jesus said
From the very beginning, Mateo’s focus was clear, to serve the forgotten, the hurting, and those who longed for God’s presence. What began as a step of faith became a lifelong journey of compassion, sacrifice, and impact that has touched thousands.
In 2011, his wife, Alexandra, joined the mission full-time, and together they served side by side in Honduras, Costa Rica, and the United States. Their ministry flourished with love, hospitality, and tireless dedication..
After Mateo’s passing in 2021, Alexandra, together with the board, carried his legacy forward, continuing to plant seeds of justice and mercy in the lives of the most
vulnerable. Through food programs, home construction, Bible studies, children's outreach, and spiritual care, the mission continues to thrive.

My name is Alexandra Mattson, and I am the director of Seeds of Righteousness Mission (SOR).
Mateo and I started performing mission work together in 2008, eleven years after we got married. On different occasions we went on some short mission trips to Central America, and brought some teams from the USA to work on church construction, and children's ministry.
In 2010 we took a nine-day trip to Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and right after we came back to the USA, we both knew that God was calling us to serve as full-time missionaries. My passion has always been to help those less fortunate, and I am grateful to continue the legacy my husband left, bringing glory and honor to God.
Through our mission in Honduras and Costa Rica, and now the USA, I am overjoyed to witness incredible
transformation and lasting change in the lives of those we serve, not only in individuals but also within their families and communities.
I was introduced to Jesus Christ at a young age in Sunday school and have since come to love Him
greatly because the love he has shown me is so great. Now, as an official “senior citizen” I know that the highest calling in life is to be a conduit of God’s love into the lives of those who tragically have been living outside of His love.
Consequently, my life as a follower of Jesus Christ and a professional carpenter, has led me to many
kingdom building experiences locally and globally. My favorite pastimes include good conversations about life, building a practical home or doing a home repair project that helps a family in need to live well. My time with Seeds of Righteousness has included trips to Costa Rica and Honduras for such life-giving building projects. I have witnessed many times when contributions have flowed through seeds of Righteousness into the needs of a hungry family, a neighborhood church or to assist those in health crisis.
I am convinced that God has blessed America to be a blessing to the less fortunate. Even the average American is rich when compared to folks in many parts of the world. I believe our Lord is calling all of us to leverage our blessings to lift the poor and downtrodden.
Hi, I’m Valeria Ortiz. I support the administrative side of Seeds of Righteousness Mission, and I also
help design email updates and create content for our Facebook and Instagram pages. In addition, I serve as a key liaison and organizer for our projects in Costa Rica, where I currently live. I’m also blessed to be Alexandra Mattson's niece.
I began serving with the mission in 2021, the same year I spent six months living in the United States with my aunt. During that time, I learned a lot about the mission’s inner workings and had the opportunity to support some of our ministries in the U.S.,including the Ministry to Migrant Children, where I helped teach Bible stories and lead activities. I also volunteered at church camps and children’s programs, which deepened my passion for service.
Since returning to Costa Rica, I’ve continued assisting with administrative work, communications,
and coordinating logistics for local mission projects.
By God’s grace, I was raised in a Christian home and learned from an early age who God is and what Jesus did for me. However, it was around the age of 16 that the Holy Spirit truly stirred my heart, and I began to seek God more intentionally, reading the Bible, diving into Christian books, and desiring to know Him deeply.
I have a passion to honor Christ with my life and to share His love and truth with others wherever I go.
