“January sets the pace for the 2015 race”  Mateo T.M.
Colossenses 1:9-10

The doors of Santa LuciaAs the open door signifies the beginning of the year!  How the year starts in January often times sets the tone for the year ahead.  This month to date we’ve seen over 6 people come to know the Messiah Jesus Christ as their Savior.  We have also started work on two home builds/remodels for families in need.  Join us this year for an exciting adventure with the Lord in serving others.

Jesus said in Revelation 3:20:  Look, I’m standing at the door and knocking. If anyone listens to my voice and opens the door, I’ll come in and we’ll eat together. What a great way to begin the year by opening the door of our life so that we’ll have fellowship with the Almighty Creator God – Jesus Christ.

We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.  Colossians 1:9-10

So Why do so many new years resolutions fail

by SOR Mission on December 30, 2014

New-Years-ResolutionsWelcome to 2015 and for some of us we’ll be attempting  to add or change a few priorities to our already overflowing list of things we want to accomplish as well as the improvements we want to make in our lives.  I commend each one of you for wanting to improve your quality and the fullness that you want to add to your life.

As missionaries we experience the same and our priorities and goals are for finding more effective ways to communicate the good news of Jesus Christ so that those listening will be motivated to want to make some changes in their lives as well.

During the next few days I will be writing my thoughts on this topic and posting them on our Today page on this site.  I will also post some comments on our Facebook page entitled SOR Mission At Work.

Thanks for being a part of this ministry and partnering with us in prayer, support and encouragement.  Its a joy to serve others in Jesus name!

Maranatha!

“Brothers, I do not consider myself to have embraced it yet. But this one thing I do: Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead” Philippians 3:13

Christmas Greetings from SOR Mission

Christmas - birth of Jesus pictureCumprimentos do Natal de Missão Sementes de Justiça

Christmas greetings from  Seeds of Righteousness Mission

At SOR Mission we share with you the joy we feel at this time of year.  A time of giving, great cheer, anticipation of a new year ahead as well as times with those we love and cherish.  For some of us its a lonely time with feelings of isolation and loneliness.  The Scriptures tell us that people during the time of the birth of Christ also lived and walked in dark times.  But we were presented Jesus and he is the Light of the World. We at SOR Mission proclaim this light to the Nations.  Partner with us in 2015 to make this good news known to those in Central America where the mission works to bring light to those living in darkness.  Your donation today will help us to continue our work.

The prophet Isaiah wrote in the 8th Century BCE that:  The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For Christmas - Isaiahthose who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David. From the prophet Isaiah 9:2,6,7

Christmas Joy Shared means the most

by SOR Mission on December 9, 2014

Don Nacho smiles for St. NickAt Christmas when I was a child I loved Christmas because of the family getting together and of course all those gifts that I would be receiving from mom and dad and all the uncles and aunts.  Today as an adult my Christmas is centered around how I can duplicate that joy in the lives of those with less resources as their disposal.  We work in Honduras and Costa Rica.  Our mission statement is: “Connecting human need with God’s resources”

It’s a joy to see these faces light up and people exclaiming  how happy they are to have received a basket of Christmas joy from our Click for St. Nick program that we run every year.  If you have helped us – thank you so much– and if you still haven’t – might you consider a one time gift or even a monthly commitment.

Will you consider supporting this ministry in 2015 with a regular monthly gift?  You can go to donate now on this page  and once there click then scroll down to our support.  Thank you in advance for helping this ministry.

Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” Luke 6:38

Its Christmas time once again

by SOR Mission on December 6, 2014

The sounds of Christmas are all around us as we go from here to there.  Whether you’re in New York City, San Jose or Tegucigalpa the sounds of Rodolph the Reindeervintage Christmas songs sung by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole as well as vintage songs like  Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer by Gene Autry fill us with nostalgia from the past.  We all want to return home once again for that Christmas we remember from years ago.

But yet this only fills a portion of that emptiness that we sometimes feel.  It’s the wanting to belong” that causes us to keep on searching for meaning and purpose in life.   Those of us who have found that deep meaning and purpose want to tell others and also we want to show others what it means by helping others.

Bethlehem StarYou can read about our helping others in the various pages on this site and you can also help others by being a neighbor to those around you who need a friend.  You can also help others by helping SOR Mission through our various ministries of Justice, Mercy and Click for St. Nick to mention a few.  Go to donate now to help.

“Where is the one who was born to be the king of the Jews? We saw his star rising and have come to worship him.” Matthew 2:2  of the New Testament written around the year 85.

Thanksgiving 2014 – A time of reflection

by SOR Mission on November 27, 2014

Thanksgiving - SORThanksgiving Day, or in Spanish Día de Acción de Gracias, in the USA is a time for many to enjoy family, friends, food and football. There are many versions of what is called a Thanksgiving Dinner due to the changing face of the American culture.
The first feast that took place in Plymouth, Massachusetts in August of 1621 was attended by about 53 pilgrims and 90 Native Americans of theThe First Thanksgiving Wampanoag Nation and Squanto was its most famous member. They had a time of common prayer and a meal together of thanksgiving for Squanto and his fellow warriors in helping them to establish themselves on the North American continent.
Through the course of time in 1863 President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of “Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.” to be celebrated on Thursday November 26, 1863. Thus it was called Thanksgiving as a time to give thanks and praise to our God and Creator.
Since that time it has evolved into a long weekend and a two day holiday for many people that begins what US Americans call the “Holiday Season”. For many, the day after Thanksgiving called “Black Friday” has turned in to a buying frenzy for those looking for bargains on the first “official” day of the holiday season. For some, this only gives credence to the belief that the American culture is one of excessive consumption in an attempt to satisfy their deep emptiness of abandoning the faith of the founding members of the Plymouth colony.
We take this time at Seeds of Righteousness Mission to thank the Almighty God for the many blessings he’s bestowed on us this past year. We thank him for blessing the mission with the ability to help others who have less resource on which to survive. We further remember to pray for those we minister to in Central America who would never be able to celebrate a day such as this because of their poverty. Seeing we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in Central America, today for those with less resource is just another day to attempt to find some work and to be able to purchase enough to have their rice and beans this evening.

God’s Kingdom is made up of ones like this

by SOR Mission on November 22, 2014

RositaRecently in a phone conversation with some friends of SOR Mission I was told that their son recently told them that he wanted to take some of his Christmas money and buy a basket of food for the poor for our Click for St. Nick program that we run each year.  As I was told this I was moved as I learned more about God’s Kingdom.  His Kingdom that he’s establishing is within us here on the earth and children like this young boy wanted to help the poor.  As adults its so easy to find reasons to spend all we have on ourselves unlike this boy who chose to spend part of his Christmas money on the poor.  Help us with Click for St. Nick if you can.

This morning in my devotional for November 22nd out of Proverbs I found three verses speaking of this.

Proverbs 22:9 He who gives much will be honored, for he gives some of his food to the poor. 22:16 He who makes it hard for the poor by getting more for himself, or who gives to the rich, will become poor himself. 22:22 Do not rob the poor because he is poor, or crush those who suffer at the gate. 22:23 For the Lord will stand by them and help them, and take the life of those who rob them.

Poco a poco se come el coco

by SOR Mission on November 19, 2014

CoconutsWhen I came to Central America many years ago I heard this expression many times during my language learning phase. In English it means, “Little by little the coconut gets eaten”.   You might wonder what does that have to do with anything of any importance today.  What importance does this play in the life of a cross cultural missionary?

This expression really explains how our lives are lived and how growth takes place in most people.  GrowthCoconut green comes from consistent daily “baby steps” that we take towards the goals and priorities that we have set for our lives.  Eating a coconut little by little is like taking a year of baby steps towards the goal that you set.  The people we work with change one step at a time and at times it might appear that those we work with and minister to aren’t changing but then again, its one baby step at a time.  We can’t lose track of that.

Continue on in doing good because as it says in I Corinthians 15:58 So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.”

Let us know your comments and thoughts.  We’d love to hear from you.

Deixe-nos saber seus comentários e pensamentos. Gostaríamos muito de ouvir de você.

Would you eat monkey out of necessity?

by SOR Mission on November 3, 2014

Eating Monkey out of Necessity?  Would you? (11-3-2014)

Hillsides of Costa Rica.

The boys along with their mother lived near San Ramon in the mountains and were often times hungry and even had to eat monkey to survive. Child Protective Services (CPS), through a neighbor, found out that their mother was practicing witchcraft and was constantly leaving the children alone in the house. Thanks to this neighbor the CPS was able to remove the children from their mother’s home.

“Maria” and her husband heard about this case and they went to CPS to see if it would be possible for them to be foster parents for these children. Anna had tried to have children but for some reason she was not able. CPS, after making a study, decided to give the children to this couple and within a year she became pregnant, appearing that God’s grace came over her as a blessing for what she had done.

Even though this couple is struggling to support their family, neighbors and others saw the generousness of their hearts and decided to help

Street scene in Honduras

them with the expenses for these precious five children. Anna’s husband has two Jobs in order to be able to support them. Anna says that when the children arrived at their home they had an amazing amount of different health issues including anemia to resolve. Now, after a year, the children are doing much better and they are even attending school. This couple has been a wonderful blessing for these little ones. They say that they have had some difficulties but they know that God is with them and they are happy to see all the improvements that these children are making.

Please help us to continue this work with your donation to our mission. You can donate directly at our online egiving site on this page. Blessings!
